Views of and from Pisac

I had 3 amazing photos of our hike today, ( google pisac, peru) and then I accidentally deleted them. So here is a photo of my new alpaca socks.

I got them at the market before our 2 hour hike up the mountain.

Corny

Here Myrie enjoys some "choclo" or Peruvian corn on the cob. It's different than the Canadian version as the kernels are bigger (almost like they are wrapped in potatoes) and it is not very sweet, more bland.

Who doesn't love alpaca?

Not this girl! Also note the incredible mountains that surround the area.

"sexy woman"

After the alpaca sighting we continued on to the last sight of the day: Saqsaywaman. Formerly an Inca stronghold it was incredibly impressive with it's perfectly nestled stonework, which has survived the many earthquakes that the Spanish buildings have not; even the ones the built using stones they stole from the Inca sites.

In the photo you can see some o the stonework and also a giant curved rock, that on the other side had natural slides carved into it.

Alpaca goodness

We stumbled upon a random alpaca fair type thing. Lots of merchandise and a ring where I swear they show alpacas like my sisters used to show calves at the Rockton Fair. Alpaca = smaller and for wool. Llama = bigger and more as a pack animal. (I googled that for ya!)

Wisdom of the teeth

After feeling a constant pain in my teeth this past week i concluded that I must have a cavity. Combined with seeing quite a few signs for dentists, and reading The Celestial Prophesy (which talks a lot about seeing the coincidences in life as something greater) I decided to go for it.

-Dentist did not speak English- but he called someone who did!

-Not a cavity, wisdom tooth causing trouble, as noted after an x ray. My new dentist has been practicing for 8 years.

-After 3 phone calls it is decided that I should not take the tooth out, but instead remove a small piece of something (gum? Bone?) to help the tooth be less of a jerk (later google-ing says this is not that unusual)

-20 minutes later, all done. I am told to take ibuprofen 2 times a day and to come back if it doesn't get better. Total cost for an x ray, anesthesia and the procedure: 100sols, or less than $50. So far it still hurts a little, but I think less?

So please say a prayer for me and my silly teeth.

Night bus

Survived the bus- 15 hours, crazing winding roads along impressively scary sea side cliffs, 2+ crying children, 2 chick flicks in Spanish, one random will smith action movie with dogs?, a Latin music video thing and part of a Cher concert. We got 2 meals and had the nicest bus attendant who spoke English and had a Canadian ex boyfriend.

Spent the afternoon wandering the city and noticed a big number of dentist signs, which is good as I think I have a pretty serious cavity on the go. No good.

Tomorrow the huge monastery and getting some tickets for another night bus to cusco.

I brought a flask

It was in 2 zip lock bags and my bag still has a lingering smell of whiskey. Thankfully security didn't find it too suspicious.I am not even a big whiskey drinker, but it was a gift, and it seemed like I should take it? And whiskey is the thing you put in flasks? Maybe if myrie or i can't sleep on this night bus a nightcap will help

Update: flask leaked again! One stiff drink tonight and then no more flask for me

Aha!

I have finally got this former iPhone turned i touch to allow me to blog!

It has been 2 full days in lima now with half of one to go- tomorrow we catch an overnight bus to aquriqipa and the to cusco an then to trail.

So far my Spanish is coming back to me alright, we visited catacombs, a big flower market (couldn't help myself), the beach (and got a little bit of colour) watching the suffers.

Having a great time so far, really enjoying not worrying about time, and even met another girl from Toronto doing a similar trip- she is even on the same inca trail group. Just call us trend setters :)
