In the news

I noticed it on the BBC page, not sure if Canada noticed, but there is currently a strike happening in Cajamarca- a city we only bypassed due to a logistics guess.

The town is protesting a gold mine that, while approved by a Peruvian environment minister who had recently resigned, could damage the water supply for the town. Since hearing about it we haven't really had an opportunity to ask a peruvian about it, but it's very interesting considering the newly elected president was voted in on a platform of giving indigenous peoples more rights on what happens to their land.

Below left of centre is a newspaper with the story on the front page- the only one of the 13.

This is also how papers are sold-- although most people just gather around and read the front page so I am not sure how many are bought.
